Most laundromats close by 9 or 10pm. Fast N Clean doesn't. We're open 24 hours, every day of the week, at 1909 Avenue M in Midwood. If you've ever needed clean scrubs before a 5am hospital shift, or wanted to wash bed sheets at midnight because your toddler had a bad night, you know exactly why this matters.
Who actually uses a laundromat at 2 AM?
Way more people than you'd think. Over a year of operating overnight, we've consistently seen these patterns:
Shift workers
Nurses at Maimonides and Beth Israel finishing 12-hour overnight shifts. NYPD officers on 4×3 rotations. MTA bus operators, delivery drivers, hospitality workers. People whose "evening" is everyone else's morning.
Parents with little kids
Babies don't read the clock. When the bedding emergency happens at 1am, having a laundromat that's open — and not packed — is gold.
Students & freelancers
Brooklyn College students cramming for finals, freelance designers up late on deadlines. They run a load between sprints because morning is for sleep.
People who hate crowds
Some of our most loyal regulars come at 11pm specifically to have the place to themselves. Pick any machine, no waiting.
What's actually open at 2 AM
Every machine. Every dryer. Vending for detergent, dryer sheets, and fabric softener. Bill changer. Free Wi-Fi. Bright LED lighting and CCTV throughout.
What's NOT available overnight: our wash & fold counter (staffed 7am–9pm) and our dry-cleaning intake (same hours). For self-service, you're fully covered. For drop-off, come during the day.
How we keep overnight safe
This is the first question new customers ask, and fair enough. Here's our setup:
- CCTV recording covers every part of the floor and the parking lot, archived for 60 days
- Bright lighting on a 24-hour timer — the place is as well-lit at 3am as it is at noon
- Locked side entrance overnight; main entrance is on a well-trafficked stretch of Avenue M
- Direct line to local NYPD precinct (70th) for anything unusual
- No alcohol or loitering policy posted and enforced
In two years of overnight operation, we've had zero incidents that required police response. Midwood is a quiet residential neighborhood and Avenue M has steady late-night foot traffic from the local Hasidic community.
Why we stay open when nobody else does
Honestly? Because the demand is real and underserved. Most laundromats close early because staffing overnight isn't economical for them. Our model is different:
- Overnight is unstaffed self-service, so payroll isn't an issue
- Energy costs are lower at night (off-peak rates from Con Edison)
- Equipment runs cooler overnight and lasts longer with continuous moderate use vs all-day spikes
- It builds community trust — when locals know we're always there, they pick us over the corner spot even at noon
What you need to know before you come overnight
Bring small bills or use the card readers
Our Dexter machines accept card payment (no app needed) AND coins. The bill changer accepts $1, $5, $10, and $20.
Detergent is sold from vending
Or bring your own — many regulars do. Vending detergent is travel-size, perfect if you forgot.
Parking is easier overnight
Plenty of street spots on Avenue M and adjacent side streets. Free after 7pm in most spots.
Wi-Fi password is on the wall
Stream Netflix, work email, study notes — whatever helps the cycle pass.
The math on time
A typical Fast N Clean overnight visit:
- Wash (front-load Dexter): 35 min
- Dry (commercial dryer, 50¢ per 6 min): 20-30 min depending on load
- Fold & pack: 10 min
Total: about 75-85 minutes door to door. Bring a book, your phone, a laptop. Or wash + go home + come back to dry — we don't lock the building during open hours.
