If you've never used a professional wash and fold laundry service before, the idea might feel a bit foreign. You give a stranger a bag of dirty clothes — and trust they'll come back clean, folded, and not mixed up with someone else's?
Here's exactly what happens at Fast N Clean from the moment you book to the moment your laundry comes back. No mystery, no surprises.
What "wash and fold" actually means
Wash and fold is a full-service laundry option where the laundromat does everything: sorting, washing, drying, folding, and packaging. You hand over a bag of dirty laundry and receive a bag of clean, folded laundry — usually within 24 hours.
It's different from self-service (where you operate the machines yourself) and different from dry cleaning (which is for delicate garments using solvent, not water).
Step 1 — Choose drop-off or pickup & delivery
Two ways to use our wash and fold service in Brooklyn:
Drop-off at our shop
- Where: 1909 Avenue M, Brooklyn (Midwood)
- Price: $1.29/lb · 12 lb minimum ($15.48 minimum order)
- Best for: Loads under 20 lb, or if you live nearby
Pickup & delivery (FREE)
- Where: Inside ZIPs 11230, 11204, 11210, 11229, 11223
- Price: $1.59/lb · 20 lb minimum ($31.80 minimum order)
- Best for: 20+ lb loads, anyone who doesn't want to leave home
- Book pickup online — takes 60 seconds
Step 2 — Pack your laundry
Just put it in any bag you have — kitchen trash bag, IKEA blue bag, an old duffel. Don't separate or pre-sort; that's our job.
What goes in: shirts, pants, socks, underwear, towels, sheets, athletic wear, hoodies, kids' clothes, most everyday cottons and blends.
What to set aside (different service line):
- Suits and dress jackets → dry cleaning
- Down comforters → comforters service
- Anything marked "dry clean only"
Optional: pin a note inside the bag with any special instructions (eco detergent only, no fabric softener, hang-dry the gym shirts, etc.). We have notes attached to your account so you don't have to repeat.
Step 3 — Intake and weighing
When the bag arrives at our counter (whether you dropped it off or our driver picked it up):
- Empty and weigh — we put the contents on a calibrated scale. You see the weight before we start.
- Quick inventory — we count delicate items (lingerie, silk shirts) for accountability.
- Tag your order — each bag gets a unique ticket number tied to your name and phone.
- Issue receipt — you get a text with the weight and the total (or a printed receipt if dropping off).
Step 4 — Sort, wash, dry
This is where the magic happens. We:
- Sort by color and fabric weight — whites in one load, darks in another, towels separately from light cotton, delicates on a gentle cycle
- Pre-treat visible stains — we don't ignore them; we use stain-specific spot treatment
- Wash with quality detergent — commercial-grade, fragrance-free by default (or your preference)
- Dry at appropriate heat — we adjust by fabric, not one-size-fits-all
Every load is washed separately from other customers' loads. Your stuff doesn't mix with anyone else's.
Step 5 — Fold by hand
Once dry, everything is hand-folded by trained staff. We follow a consistent folding standard so your shirts stack neatly in your closet:
- T-shirts and casual shirts: standard fold
- Dress shirts: hung if requested, otherwise folded
- Pants: folded in thirds
- Socks: paired (we try to find matches)
- Underwear: folded compactly
- Towels: thirds, then in half
- Sheets: pillowcase folded around the matching set
Items go into a clean bag (or your original bag, washed). Bedding gets its own bag for easy unpacking.
Step 6 — Pickup or delivery
You get a text when your order is ready:
- Drop-off customers: Pick up at the counter (7 AM-9 PM staffed; if outside those hours, ask about overnight pickup)
- Pickup & delivery: Your driver returns to your door within the next available window (usually next-day morning or afternoon)
How long does it take?
- Standard turnaround: 24 hours from drop-off (or 24-48 hours for pickup & delivery, since there's transit time)
- Same-day: Drop off before 10 AM = pickup possible by 6 PM same day (capacity-permitting)
- Rush (4-hour): Sometimes available for smaller loads — call first
What does it really cost? (worked examples)
- 10 lb (one person, one week): $15.48 (you pay the minimum)
- 18 lb (couple, one week): 18 × $1.29 = $23.22
- 30 lb (family of 4, one week): 30 × $1.29 = $38.70
- Same 30 lb via pickup & delivery: 30 × $1.59 = $47.70
