You forgot. You're hosting tomorrow night and the guest sheets smell like the box they came in. Or you have an interview in 7 hours and your one good dress shirt is in the hamper. Question: can a laundromat actually turn around wash & fold the same day in Brooklyn?
At Fast N Clean, the answer is almost always yes — if you understand the rules.
The honest answer up front
Same-day wash and fold is possible when:
- You drop off before 10 AM
- Your load is under 30 pounds
- It's not a weekend in spring/fall (peak time)
- You give us a callback number so we can text when ready
Drop off after 10am or it's a holiday weekend? Same-day is hit or miss. We'll be honest at intake whether we can do it.
Standard turnaround vs same-day
Standard (default for everyone)
Drop off today, pick up tomorrow afternoon. About 24-30 hours. Free, no premium.
Same-day
Drop off before 10am, pick up by 6pm same day. Available on capacity-permitting days. No extra charge at Fast N Clean — many shops charge 50% premium for same-day, we don't.
Rush (within 4 hours)
Drop off, get it back within 4 hours. Available some days, ask at intake. No extra charge if we can do it; we'll tell you upfront if we can't.
Why most shops can't do same-day
Three reasons, in order of importance:
1. Equipment capacity
A single 20-lb commercial washer takes 35 minutes; the dryer takes 30. To turn around a 20-lb load, you need: a free washer, a free dryer when wash finishes, and 15 minutes of staff time to fold. Most shops run their machines back-to-back all day — there's no slack to slot in a same-day order.
2. Staffing
Folding 20 lb takes a trained person about 10-12 minutes. Most shops have one or two people on the counter who are also doing intake, payment, customer questions. Same-day requires interrupting that flow.
3. Sorting capacity
Same-day means we can't batch your load with anyone else's. It runs solo through the machines, which is less efficient. Most shops won't take the efficiency hit.
How we make same-day work at Fast N Clean
- Eight commercial washers, eight dryers. Even on Sundays we usually have one machine open at any given time.
- Two-shift folding team. Morning shift starts at 6am; afternoon shift overlaps from 1pm.
- Same-day flag at intake. When you check in "same-day," we tag your bag and run it through expedited.
- Texting workflow. When your load is ready, we text. No phone-tag.
Walk-through: a real same-day pickup
- 9:15 AM — Drop off 18 lb at the counter. Quick weigh, intake form (or skip if you have an account). $1.29/lb × 18 = $23.22.
- 9:30 AM — Load is in the washer. 35-minute wash cycle.
- 10:05 AM — Transfer to dryer. 30 minutes on appropriate heat setting (we set this based on the fabric mix in your load).
- 10:40 AM — Fold begins. 10-12 minutes for a typical 18 lb load.
- 10:55 AM — Your bag is ready. We text you.
- You pick up anytime that same day during open hours.
That's about 90 minutes total processing. If you drop off at 9am, your laundry is ready by 11am.
What can derail same-day
- Stains. If something needs pre-treatment, we'll pause to do it properly. Honest about timing impact.
- Heavy bedding. Comforters and large blankets take longer to dry. We might not finish same-day if you bring a king down comforter at 10am.
- Special instructions. Hang-dry items, different detergents, separate sub-loads — all valid, but they slow turnaround. We’ll tell you the realistic finish time at intake.
- Peak Sundays. Sunday afternoon is our busiest stretch. Same-day works Sunday morning, harder Sunday afternoon.
If you need it faster than same-day
Call (347) 312-7060 before coming. We sometimes do 4-hour turnaround for small loads (under 15 lb) when capacity allows. No premium, but call first so we can hold a machine.
If we can't do same-day
Two options:
- Self-service yourself — same machines, same building, you operate. About 90 min of your time. See our self-service page.
- Pickup tomorrow morning — drop off today, we'll have it ready by 10am the next day.
Either way, we'll never let you walk out without a clear plan.
